Getting to Know...Footloose (1st - 12th Grade)Elementary Nights & WeekendsWaitlistRen moves to a small farming community that doesn’t understand fun. The local pastor has convinced the rest of the town that parties and dancing are evil and have been outlawed. Ren, along with other kids, fight back to help the town see that life is meant to be lived to the fullest and parties and dancing are ways to do so. This is a 60-minute version of the original stage production with content suitable for young performers. Students are encouraged to learn a song from the show to sing for the audition on the first day. Learn from an expert mechanic and a member of local law enforcement, about how you can be prepared, and responsible, when you hit the road. Discussion and hands on presentations will address checking your car to ensure it is safe and operating properly. Run for It! (1st - 5th Grade)Elementary Before & After SchoolRun for confidence, strength and a sense of working hard for something you can achieve! Being active helps all of us become more comfortable with ourselves, and more aware of the amazing things that our bodies do for us every day. Each session will include an activity related to character education, and a running related game or exercise. Cross the class finish line with a fun run and celebration activities the last day. Discuss her life and experiences during this era. This book looks closely at Anne’s life before the secret annex, what life was like in hiding, and the legacy of her diary. Illustrations, maps and diagrams provide historical and visual reference in a biography written in a way that is appropriate and accessible for younger readers. You will receive a copy of the book. This class is taught in Spanish and is ideal for students attending LODL, or other students who speak Spanish. Puddle Stompers (Ages 3 - 5)Early LearnersKids grow quickly, and so do plants. Spring is the perfect to time to see this happen! Play outside, and have a licensed teacher help guide your exploration of plants, trees, grass, and critters that will be your toys and learning tools. Stomping in puddles and playing in the mud are encouraged in this class. Art, reading, science, and math collide in the natural world. Dress to be outside (rain boots, winter gear, etc)! Middle School Archery (6th - 8th Grade)Grades 6-12Target success! NASP (National Archery in the Schools Program) trained instructors will guide you in learning how to safely shoot a compound bow. Shoot both long bows and recurve bows. Build your skills through interactive archery games and challenges. Safety, history, and proper shooting techniques will be covered. All equipment is provided. Unless weather is severe, this is a rain or shine, outside program. Dress for the weather. One way bus transportation is provided. The bus leaves from Twin Oaks Middle School (under the marquee) for Cleary Lake Regional Park at 2:15pm. ZAPS ACT Seminar (11 - 12th Grade)Grades 6-12ZAPS test-preparation seminars are carefully designed to help you do your personal best on the ACT. Students who complete the ZAPS seminar—and practice the tips and strategies at home—typically raise their ACT scores by 2 or more points. You will be taught strategies for improving in all four subtests, take shortened practice tests that mirror the actual testing experience, and get suggestions for individualized study in the days leading up to the test.
